Tree Care Workshop Series Offered Across the State
LINCOLN, Neb. The Nebraska Forest Service, UNL Cooperative Extension, and the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum are expanding their Tree Care Workshops to six locations across the state in 2005. Tree care experts will conduct a morning technical session for green industry professionals and an evening session especially designed for landowners.

Tree Care Techniques for Professionals will be offered in the morning at six locations across the state from 8:30 a.m.-noon. Selection, Planting and Care of Trees: A Homeowner's Guide will offer sessions in the evening from 7:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Registration for both workshops will begin one-half hour before each workshop.

"The morning workshop provides advanced training to green industry professionals on the proper care of Nebraska's tree resources," said Scott Josiah, State Extension forester with the University of Nebraska. "The evening workshop offers basic, up-to-date information on what every homeowner needs to know about trees."

Topics include tree risk and appraisal, common and emerging insect and disease problems, trees and chemicals, tree selection, planting, and post-planting care, along with pruning techniques.

Registration is $25 for the a.m. workshop and $15 for the p.m. workshop and must be received by Feb. 23. Fees include breaks and workshop materials.

The International Society of Arboriculture and the Nebraska Arborists Association have each assigned 3.5 continuing education units to the morning workshop and 2.5 units to the evening workshop.

For more information or to register, contact David Mooter (dmooter2@unl.edu) or visit the Nebraska Forest Service Web site at www.nfs.unl.edu and check the calander of events.

Brochures will be mailed to past attendees in the near future.

The tree care workshop is sponsored by the Nebraska Forest Service, the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum and Cooperative Extension in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
