Program AreasThe Middle Republican NRD has many programs dedicated to natural resources conservation. Water ResourcesTo protect and conserve our water resources, the Ground Water Management and the Ground Water Quality Management Areas were created district-wide. The district monitors water quality and quantity and has cost-share incentives in place to encourage responsible use of water.NeRAINIn April 2004, The Middle Republican NRD, along with 12 other NRDs, launched the Nebraska Rainfall Assessment and Information Network (NeRAIN), funded in part with a grant from Nebraska Environmental Trust. The mission of the NeRAIN Project is to collect greater and more accurate statewide precipitation data. Forestry & WildlifeThe Tree Planting and Wildlife Programs are two of the most popular MRNRD programs. The MRNRD encourages landowners and communities to take advantage of it's low-cost tree planting program. The district also donates trees to school groups as part of it's Arbor Day festivities. An incentive program to establish wildlife habitat called WILD Nebraska is also available.Land TreatmentThe MRNRD offers cost-share assistance for landowners who want to establish various conservation practices on their land to prevent soil erosion. The district also responds to erosion and sediment runoff complaints. Cost ShareThe Middle Republican NRD distributes local and state cost-share funds for accepted water management and land treatment practices.Flood ControlThe MRNRD acts as a sponsor for various flood control and watershed structures around the district. These include watershed dams, which help to reduce downstream flood damage to farm land and urban areas.Education/InformationStaff members from the MRNRD provide classroom presentations, assist with high school judging contests and other educational assistance for district students and educators to educate them about natural resources. The district also offers information programs for the general public on timely natural resources topics. Sprinkles and Splashes, a quarterly newsletter, and various other publications and materials are also available to the general public. |
