All students will
need to bring a sack lunch and drink. Since we will be in the great outdoors,
tics, snakes or other critters could be joining us (but we hope not!)
Long pants and shoes would also be wise — poison ivy and nettles
are in the area. Drinking water and a first aid kit will be on site. Dress

LAND SURVEY and SOIL PROTECTION
Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS); Red Willow CO. Extension
Presenters: Shirley Ferguson & Brian Strauch
In this hands-on activity that involves MUD, students will use a mound
of soil to learn about different types of land treatment and learn about
Surveying Equipment to accomplish different land treatments. Students
will learn different strategies to control soil erosion.
Bobwhite Quail and Their Habitat
Nebraska Game & Parks Commission
Presenter: Andy Moore
Wildlife Biologist Andy Moore will introduce students to the food habits and requirements of Bobwhite Quail. He will also introduce
students to other wildlife of the Loess Canyons through a collection of skins and skulls.

EVERY TREE FOR ITSELF

Trees compete for the same, often limiting resources such as nutrients, water and sun. Through this role playing activity, students become trees and compete for resources from where they are rooted (standing). Variations in the game reveal how just one very limiting resource such as water during a drought can have a serious impact on a forest or woodland stand.
HOW CLEAN IS THE STREAM?

Healthy streams support a variety of aquatic insect life which support fish and other wildlife species. Students will determine the health of a stream using basic water chemistry and examining the diversity of stream life present.
