NEW 2020 Chemigation Permit Information

The MRNRD is proposing changes to the Chemigation Permit process.  These changes will be in line with current law and provide a clear understanding of the Chemigation Permitting to all potential chemigators. No one should begin to chemigate without a permit or they will be fined. 

The MRNRD’s Chemigation changes will be sent out several times before the deadline but this is first notice! Proposed changes will be open for comments at a public hearing.

Middle Republican NRD Tree Ordering & Planting Deadlines

We have a variety of trees and shrubs available to landowners.  Trees may be purchased as hand plants where you plant them yourselves, or as a machine planting where our staff will bring in the tree planting machine which is capable of planting thousands of seedlings a day.  If you are interested in us planting your trees/shrubs, the sign-up deadline is November 30thso please give our office a call at 308-367-4281 or your local NRCS office.  Order forms for the trees and shrubs available for purchase will be out in August and final orders will have to be turned in no later than F

Farmers and ranchers interested in preventing erosion, improving soil health, conserving water and wildlife, or making any other natural resource conservation improvements to their property are encouraged to apply now for funding available from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Those interested in receiving funding should sign up before Nov. 16, 2018.

Producers in the Upper, Middle and Lower Republican NRDs in southwest Nebraska, which includes all or portions of Perkins, Chase, Dundy, Lincoln, Hayes, Hitchcock, Frontier, Red Willow, Furnas, Harlan, Franklin, Webster, and Nuckolls counties, may apply for funding to make irrigation system efficiency improvements.  Eligible conservation practices include: converting gravity systems to subsurface drip with a maximum payment of $1,000 per acre; permanently retiring end guns on pivots for $2,000 per acre; and installing high intensity soil moisture sensors for an approximate total of $5,000 o

The 2013-2017 allocation period is in its last year, along with that has come several questions about water usage and penalties. The MRNRD Board of Directors has approved the next allocation period for 2018- 2022 and producers will have 60” allocation plus an allowable reserve of up to 12” (IF YOU HAVE IT AVAILABLE OR AS ADJUSTED FOR PENALTIES IMPOSED BY OVERUSE) from the 2013-2017 allocation period.

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced yesterday that $150 million in funding is available for agricultural producers through the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), USDA’s largest conservation program that helps producers voluntarily improve the health and productivity of private and Tribal working lands.

The Middle Republican Natural Resources District will be transitioning into sub-districts for their election of board members.  These changes will be in effect for the 2016 election year.  The MRNRD Board of Directors is currently an eleven person board all elected at large.  The new set-up for this board will be a thirteen person board and will result in a major change in how members will be elected. This will be something that hasn’t been looked at or changed for the last 20 years.
